SERVICE ABOVE SELF

Food distribution project for indigent families as a meaningful start to new year.

Each New Year begins with celebration, but for the Rotary Club of Roosevelt, it also begins with purpose. Through its annual initiative, Salubong sa Bagong Taon: Community Food Share, the club welcomes the year not only with hope, but with meaningful action.

Held every January 1, this project reflects a long-standing tradition of giving that traces back to the club’s charter family, even before they became part of Rotary. What started as a simple act of generosity has grown into a sustained commitment to serve, now carried forward under the guiding principles of Rotary.

As communities transition from the festivities of New Year’s Eve, the Rotary Club of Roosevelt shifts the focus toward a deeper cause, ensuring that the spirit of celebration extends to those who need it most. Through the distribution of rice to underserved families, the initiative directly addresses food insecurity while restoring dignity and hope at the very start of the year.

More than a charitable effort, the project embodies Rotary’s core belief in Service Above Self. It aligns with the Area of Focus on Community Economic Development, recognizing that access to basic needs is a foundation for stronger, more resilient communities.

In each bag of rice shared, there is a message that no one should be left behind, especially at the beginning of a new chapter. Through this simple yet powerful act, the Rotary Club of Roosevelt continues to inspire compassion, strengthen community bonds, and remind us all that the best way to welcome the year is by lifting others along the way.
